Golden Boy Promotions signs huge deal with Mexican media mogul
Golden Boy Promotions has penned a multi-year deal with Televisa, the largest Mexican media company in the Spanish-speaking world.
"This is a great moment for Golden Boy Promotions, our fighters and the sport of boxing," Oscar De la Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy, said. “To join with such a respected partner in Televisa is an honor for us and together, we're going to deliver the best fights
possible to boxing fans every month. We can't wait to get started!"
Monthly telecasts involving Golden Boy fighters will debut in January 2011, and will air on Saturday nights from various locations in Mexico. Dates and fights for the series debut will be announced shortly.
"Televisa Sports and Golden Boy Promotions unite forces in a sport that has given our country multiple world champions and has always motivated Mexican fans with pride," said Javier Alarcn, the Editorial Director of Televisa Deportes. “We will work hard
in this partnership to prove that there is no doubt that the true home of boxing is in Mexico as it has been for many decades."
Alberto Sosa, Director of Televisa Deportes, confirmed: “Both companies are obligated to present each event with the highest quality and best transmission along with the most recognized boxers on the national and international levels."
Even Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer had something to say on the arrangement, adding: “When it comes to building boxing stars in Mexico, no one does it better than Televisa. They have the most comprehensive platform for promoting events and fighters in
Mexico and we at Golden Boy are proud to partner with Televisa on this series."
The arrangement highlights Golden Boy’s increasing interest and dominance in Mexican boxing. The promotional company, which has become a hugely significant boxing force in the last decade, boasts Mexican stars such as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Juan Manuel
Marquez.
