Seeing as how oscar has never been a p4p, undisputed, or a long term holder at any division, throw in the fact that he has a 0-5 record in mega fights, and not seeming really motivated since his first loss to tito, do you think that he has been over rated in his career

  1. Yes he's overated. Still the lost to Trinidad was fixed look at the scorecards. Oscarwas up at least 6rds to 3 likely 7-2 w/3 left and yet lost 7-6. Oscar didn't throw a puch in Rd 12 yet still giot the rd. Had he won who knows what may've happened

  2. You could very well make an argument for that, just based on those few words you just mentioned. On the flip side, Oscar's defeats have been to sensational opponents. There's nothing bad about losing to Mosley, Mayweather or Hopkins (he was expected to lose against Hopkins). His lost to Trinidad was simply a robbery.

  3. Forget his loses on points the only guy to really beat him was Hopkins by ko. Look at the fighters he fought its a who who of his time.

plus you say 0-5 in superfights i would say Ike Quartey and Fernando Vargas are superfights

  4. I don't  think he has been overrated in his career because there is a reason he has had so many "pay per view" fights.  He has been a top guy in several weight classes, won some lost some but has always been a tough cookie.  Former gold medalist, several championships, but I agree he hasn't been so motivated the last 5 years, too much else going on perhaps but I would say he has earned everything in the ring.

  5. he's been top 10 pfp before.

he had the titles, cant fault a champ for not holding it long enough.

he has wins over Ricardo Mayorga, Fernando Vargas, Arturo Gatti, Ike Quartey, Hector Camacho, Pernell Whitaker, and Julio Cesar Chavez.

he's a household name, but people who truly know boxing dont put him any higher the he deserves to be.

    no, he's never been overrated.

  6. oscar is a good fighter but a better business man,yes at times i think he's overrated.

  7. Yeah he was somewhat overrated in the mid to late 90s. He fought hard but never really fought anybody of high status, or anyone who was really worth a d**n in boxing at the time. But then again, a lot of people make the same argument about Mike Tyson's early years too. Guess it all comes down to timing and who's better then who

  8. de la hoya is on the decline of his career. he was once a great boxer and still has that as part of him but he should retire soon. the only reason now he is still counted as a current great boxer is b/c of his fame and money.

  9. Between Andrew M and Woody, they pretty much covered it.  Thumbs up to both.

  10. He was ranked fighter of the year in 1995 and the best "Pound for Pound" fighter in the world in 1997.

  11. oscar has been on the p4p before. and i dont think his over rated at all.  he did a better job against mayweather then most of mayweathers opponents and he wasnt even in his prime, imagen if he was, what would of happend. his jab was working well untill he stop using it for some reason but he did good for a past prime fighter.

  12. I dont think Oscar is overrated.  He's just not as good as many thought.  He's a business man first and a boxer second.  I have to give him credit for at least putting on a good show and providing a good ''event'' many times out.

He won the Trinidad fight and got robbed.   The second Mosley fight could have gone either way.   He fought a foolish fight against Mayweather,  lost to Hopkins and should have lost to Sturm as well.  Still he did a great job of self promoting.

Oscar made to crutial mistakes.  He rose up in weight for bigger fights or ''events''.  He discovered girls.

I really dont want to see a second fight with Mayweather.  I would like to see Oscar fight Tito again.   I can understand why he avoided Winky Wright.  There 's nothing to gain and everything to lose.  Its not economically feasable for Oscar.

Oscar put on some good shows and I think he deserves credit for that.  IF he is to continue his career I think he should never rise above welterweight.  He should stay away from Cotto.
