The Golden Eagles displayed a good effort in the first set but on the whole failed to match their performance with their resilient rivals. None of the Eagles could score well in the game, while the Racers stole the show as four of the Murray State players went into double-digit scores.
Junior Cassy Woolverton topped all scorers with 13 points. Sophomore Wendi Zickfield tallied a career-high .600 (11k-2e-15ta) hitting percentage and supported MSU with 12 valuable points. Likewise, senior Mary Cunningham and Krog Teresa registered 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kayleah Sauer was credited with 15 digs, with junior Lydia Orf adding 10.

The first whistle of referee unleashed the Murray State players and they played fast and scored two of the first four points. After a quick exchange of a few more rallies, Racers converted the 4-2 lead into an 8-4 advantage. The Golden Eagles kept fighting and remained consistent in adding some points. The first set inched its way to the end and the Golden Eagles failed to trade the lead with their opponents. Finally, MSU achieved 25-20 to secure the first set of the match.
Following success in the opening set, Racers further tightened the screws on the challengers. The second set seemed to be all about the Racers. They jumped to an 8-2 lead with a 5-0 run. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles tried to come up from behind. MSU’s Kayleah Sauer started a 9-0 run to make it 20-7 for her team. The hosts took full advantage of the nervousness of the Eagles and extended their lead to 2-0 by winning the second set, 25-15.
Eagles looked visibly exhausted in the third set. However, MSU squad enjoyed top form and found the perfect rhythm to edge out their opponents. They restricted the Eagles to a low score of 10 and closed off the third set. MSU pulled off success in straight sets and celebrated an easy win.
