Golden Lilac upsets Prix D’Ispahan - Horseracing Update
Golden Lilac marvellously claimed top spot in the Prix D’Ispahan by beating hot favourite Cirrus Des Aigles on Sunday, May 27. The A. Fabre-trained bay filly demonstrated a convincing performance for the unexpected victory under Maxime Guyon.
The high-profile Group 1 contest began at 2:45 (GMT) on the good track of 1 mile and 1 furlong. Golden Lilac ran against 7 strong competitors including Cirrus Des Aigles, Planteur, No Risk At All, Zinabaa, Tin Horse, Reliable Man and Penitent.
Since the very begging of the race, the four-year-old talented sprinter looked to be in an aggressive mood, giving tough time to Cirrus Des Aigles and making her way towards the finish line.
However, brilliant filly had to fight hard for finishing first as each one of her competitors tried to impede her in one way or the other.
This was indeed a magnificent victory that boosted up the victor’s morale along with increasing her odds in the betting market.
Fabre was greatly pleased at her pupil’s glorious success. In his word with the media, the legendary trainer said, “You’d have to say that was probably her best performance on ratings. It’s complicated. I might supplement her for the Prince of Wales’s Stakes
or perhaps wait for the Prix Jacques le Marois. I'll have to think about it."
After the weekend’s mega victory, Golden Lilac’s amazing success streak supplemented well. Since debuting in September 2010, the talented daughter of Galileo out of Grey Lilas has won 6 of her total 7 starts to date. She got a third in her second last outing
on August 15, 2011.
Golden Lilac ran yesterday after a long gap of almost nine months but she showed the same vigour and skills as had been visible in her previous goings.
Cirrus Des Aigles finished as a runner-up in the race. The 4-5 favourite gelding ran well but failed to contain Golden Lilac.
The gelding’s trainer, Corine Barande-Barbe, told, “1850m [1m1f] on quick ground is a very different challenge and that was more like a 1600m [1m] race. Perhaps he would be better over a bit further or on slightly softer ground. But the horse hasn't disappointed
me."
Overall, it was an amazing event enjoyed a lot by the spectators. Golden Lilac is now geared up to test her credentials in Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
