In fact, White Wee Wee Man, Dessie *never* won the Queen Mother Champion Chase! See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Mother_Champion_Chase for the full list of winners. Are you sure you don't mean the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park?

  1. my personal favourite is best mate to win 3 gold cups is an amazing achievment especially when you look at the quality of some of the horses he beat.

  2. all great...but liked Red Rum the best...like the name too - anagram of 'Murder'...clever!!

  3. All greats, too hard to choose just one.

  4. It has to be Desert Orchid, any horse who can win a champion chase and gold cup is great and if he had run against the others I think he would of trounced them.

  5. arkle  definitey he was the greatest steeplechaser that ever lived, truly the greatest

  6. Desert Orchid, he was horse that fired the publics imagination more than any other, he managed to win at other courses too ie Cheltenham and Sandown and Wincanton... Red Rum was more of an Aintree specialist....The others are excellent horse too though just for me D O stands out!! Oh and Night Nurse should have been on the list, that horse was the first to get me interested in raciong when i was 5 or 6!!

  7. ARKLE they had to change the rules of racing because of him what an athlete

  8. Red Rum

  9. i saw them all,bar golden miller,,,,well i am not that old,,,,,but arkle was the greatest steeplechaser i have ever seen without any doubt....his arch rival(whos only crime was to be born at the same time as arkle)Mill House who only ever saw arkles backside,,would have been a champion himself had arkle not been around at the same time, some horses are best described as "FREAKS"that is not derogatory there have been lots(look up Phar lap)

in a 3 mile chase chase arkle ran the last mile with a broken foot and was just beaten into 2nd by stalbridge colonist(carrying less weight)

there were 2 handicap weights at the time 1 if arkle ran,and another if arkle didnt run

he carried the max(12st.7)whenever he ran..

  10. Red Rum,what a character!

  11. Nothing beat the best mate epically if he had a golden miller in his hand.

  12. arkle.every race he ran he was giving lumps of weight away to his rivals and still won easily.

  13. Regretably away from Aintree, poor old Rummy would have been outclassed among this lot on level weights so it's a little harsh to put him in this comparison. Golden Miller for me as I believe that he had tougher opposition from the likes of Thomond, and even though he hated Aintree he still won the double. I appreciate the rest only ever ran either the cup or the National
