Golden State Warriors: Underdogs ready to surprise in the 2012-13 NBA season - Opinion (Part
4)
Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors possess one of the most exciting rosters in the league today, but their only problem starts and ends with the injuries.
Mark Jackson’s side became the first ever to start with five rookies late last season and the fitness speculation around Andrew Bogut, and in part Stephen Curry, is what has been making headlines all off season.
While Curry seems fit and has played well in the pre-season games, Andrew Bogut is expected to rejoin the team at the start of this season. Together this duo can propel the Warriors to an elite status.
Bogut is a double-double machine and when fit, he can be counted among the top centres of the league. The Warriors have been very cautious with him and have given him more than enough time to rehab from his injuries. Barring another
unfortunate twist of fate, the Aussie big is all set to lead the Oakland franchise.
Bogut can be the answer to a glaring question in the Warriors front court. David Lee has been handling that front for quite some time now, but against quality oppositions, a lone big is just not enough. With Bogut and his huge
presence down low, the Warriors can really form the core of a formidable defense, something which is not often associated with the team. And guess what, these are not the only two options on the glass. Center Festus Ezeli, Jeremy Tyler and Draymond Green also
provide Mark Jackson with three more above 6 ft 10 in options.
Then there is the case of Klay Thompson. The young sharpshooter had an amazing rookie year and he was pretty much the reason why Golden State dared to trade Monta Ellis to Milwaukee Bucks last season. He is a brilliant ball handler
and made three-point shooting his major forte last season.
The Warriors also scalped Harrison Barnes in this year’s draft, and he has the talent to add a lot of offensive pedigree to the team. The team combination is balanced in short, and an inside-out offensive approach with a lot of
three pointers can be expected from this young side come next season.
