Golden State Warriors basketball operations Kirk Lacob named GM of Dakota Wizards: NBA Update
On Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors’ basketball operations Kirk Lacob was named the new general manager of Dakota Wizards. The Warriors own the Dakota Wizards of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Development League
(D-League) and Kirk Lacob is the son of Warriors co owner Joe Lacob. His father has now given him responsibility to see the affairs of their affiliates in Bismarck, in North Dakota.
Last season, Kirk Lacob was the Warriors’ director of basketball operations and impressed with his managerial skills. Some of the top executives in the Warriors franchise acknowledged his role as their basketball operations head.
He earned great acknowledgement and was very active during his tenure with the Warriors.
After Kirk Lacob’s appointment as general manager of Dakota Wizards, he said “With the explosion of basketball talent throughout the world, there is always the chance that we get introduced to a really good player. Our goal in
acquiring the D-League team was to strengthen our overall player development system. ... This is our first step."
Last year, when the Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob hired his son Kirk Lacob for his team’s basketball operations, many critics lashed out at the fact that the hierarchal hiring is not appropriate for the Warriors.
But Joe Lacob defended his son’s hiring as Director of basketball operations
“Forget titles. They don't mean anything; He'll be working on statistical things, things he's very good at. Looking at analysis. Helping with the draft.”
After arriving in the Warriors’ franchise, Kirk Lacob certainly proved his abilities and helped the franchise to make statistical strategies for their players. He was also given the responsibility to oversee the Warriors’ potential
drafts for the next season. Kirk Lacob spent a whole season with the Warriors and now has been given the charge of their affiliates, Dakota Wizards.
The Golden State Warriors purchased the Dakota Wizards on 28th June 2011 with enormous confident. Their management had stated in the media as they will utilize Wizards to strengthen its current roster in Golden State.
The Warriors are the fourth team in the league which has its own affiliates in the NBA Development League. The Los Angeles Lakers along with the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are the three other teams which have their D-League affiliates.
