Golden State Warriors bring in Klay Thompson; Utah Jazz go for Alec Burks at 12 – NBA Draft - Part 6
No. 11- Golden State Warriors
Klay Thompson
The Golden State warriors have a good player on their hands. Klay Thompson stands 6-foot-6 and primarily comes across as a good shooter, but that’s only part of his game. The shooting guard has great range on his shot and can knock
them down effortlessly, but he needs to improve his commitment. He has also had off court issues, including a marijuana bust.
However as a player Thompson is a headache for opponents. He is a great passer for a player in his position and stretches opposing teams thanks to his prowess from downtown. Averaging over 21 points a game last season Klay Thompson
also drove to the rim a lot and got to the free throw line consistently.
The son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson, Klay should be able to settle in the league without much trouble.
The Golden State Warriors are in the middle of an exciting project and with Thompson now joining the likes of Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry, the Warriors won’t have many problems in scoring.
Trade rumours for Monta Ellis aside, their backcourt certainly looks up to the mark and Golden State will be pushing for a higher finish next season.
No. 12 - Utah Jazz
Alec Burks
Joining Enes Kanter in going to the Utah Jazz on draft night is shooting guard Alec Burks. The Jazz were one of the better placed teams in this year’s draft and they have certainly taken advantage.
Burks averaged over 20 points a game last season and the player seems to have a lot of potential. Although still very raw and in need of some training to shore up his shortcomings, Burks will give the Jazz a great option in the
long run.
Burks is a very athletic player, the like of what the Jazz need. However he will have to become better shooter, especially from 3-point territory, and a better defender to stake a claim for a starting place on the side.
What he currently brings to the table is his speed and leap, which he utilises to charge to the rim very well. Also the player is an accomplished free throw shooter meaning that he punishes teams that foul him to stop the penetration.
A good pick by the Jazz side overall, and they could make a comeback to the playoffs sooner than expected after their shrewd picks on Draft night. The Jazz lost Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer last year but Devin Harris has stepped
up and with good young players to build upon, they can expect positive results sooner rather than later.
