Golden State Warriors depending upon Bob Myers: Will he deliver?- NBA Update
Ever since Golden State Warriors promoted Bob Myers to General Manager, he has been on an all out campaign to win the public credibility.
However taking the reins of a franchise that has made its appearance only once in the last 18 seasons is nothing short of a herculean task. There is no doubt that the franchise’s hierarchy has vested their complete trust in the
abilities of Myers. He has been associated with the club for more than a year now and has worked on various issues, such as contract negotiations, talent evaluation and roster management.
However he has yet to confront his biggest quest, the NBA draft. Previously he has been part of the Warriors scouting team and now the franchise has its hands full of draft picks. But there lies a certain ambivalence Warriors have
the number 7th and 30th pick in the 1st round and 35th and 52nd in the 2nd round.
As things stand now Myers doesn’t have the privilege of quality top picks, something that the franchise needs direly. They have their repute and public credibility on the stake. As the existing roster is oozing with rookies and
they lack depth on both offensive and defensive end.
Picking players out of the draft down the line is always a tricky business, there always is a chance that one can turn out be a surprise like Kobe Bryant, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili or it can be a complete disaster. Whatever
happens there is always one person to credit or discredit, the GM.
Same is the case with Myers, who not alone has to prove that his promotion was righteous but also have to redeem the lost pride of Warriors.
Speaking in a press he acknowledged the fact that it will be his only chance to make an impression before the next season.
“It's a fair question," Myers said, before going into the answer that fits most every situation, how "the pressure that exists externally will never outweigh the pressure I'll put on myself. I'm one of those people that is more
self-critical than is probably necessary."
Warriors’ back to back dismissals have caused them a lot of infamy and there is a huge disdained crowd with inside Golden State that has stopped hoping for betterment. Perhaps that is one the reason behind the news related with
them shifting back to San Francisco.
As far as the draft picks are concerned, Bob still have some moves to make. Previously it was learnt that they are willing to trade all of their picks for quality players from other clubs.
According to the sources close to the franchise, they are willing to trade their number 7 pick along with Dorell Wright to rope in Philadelphia 76ers’ Andre Iguodala.
Golden State top preference at this moment is to acquire a quality player at the small forward position. For that reason they are also looking to acquire Nicolas Batum from Portland Trail Blazers or Luol Deng from Chicago Bulls.
Warriors have multiple options prior to June 28. They also require a floor manager (point guard) and to acheive the goals, all eyes are set on Bob.
