Golden State Warriors down Detroit Pistons 99-91 - NBA Recap (Part 1)
Golden State Warriors were routed by the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday night, a loss which their coach Marc Jackson labelled as “unacceptable” after the game. Players only had a day to sit back and analyze what went wrong and they did it perfectly.
In what was their 12th outing of the season, they used a combination of rock solid defence and efficient offense to overpower Detroit Pistons 99-91, to improve their record to 4-8 and more importantly, earn back the confidence of their coach.
"We defended, we didn't make excuses, and we didn't get frustrated. It was just a great performance overall. I think the guys felt challenged, and first and foremost we are a defensive-minded team," Jackson said. "We started to get stops and it affected
our offense."
Warriors were clinical and outclassed their opponents in shooting from the floor (52.1%-41.9%). The Pistons though were better from the long range (36.8%-20%), the charity stripe (84.6%-74.1%) and the rebounds (43-32).
They started the game dominantly and finished the first quarter with a 5 point lead 24-19, however in the next frame the Pistons geared up and outscored the Warriors 30-21 to finish the first half leading.
In the third, the Warriors changed gears and with the help of a few crucial spurts, came from behind and got ahead of the Pistons, and after that they never looked back.
David Lee, who along with his team mates and the coach was badly hurt with the outcome of their last game, was outstanding tonight and marshalled the Warriors with 24 points on a near perfect shooting, knocking down 10-for-12 from the floor and 4 for 5 from
the free throw line.
"That game against Charlotte really upset us," Lee said. "That was a game we have no excuse for losing. We didn't want to complicate things by coming in here and losing again."
Monta Ellis netted 22 points on 8 for 11 from the charity stripe and 7 assists while the reserves Brandon rush and Ekpe Udoh played their part as well and finished with 12 and 10 points respectively.
Dorell Wright struggled with the shooting throughout the 36:12 minutes on the court but managed to complete a double-double by scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds as well.
