Golden State Warriors down Detroit Pistons 99-91 - NBA Recap (Part 2)
Third frame was highly competitive at first, Warriors came from behind and got rid of the deficit and after that, both teams remained nip and tuck most of the time. Scores were tied at 60 all with 4 minutes remaining, but then Warriors rattled a game deciding
12-4 run to get ahead 72-64.
Warriors maintained the lead after that instance and never looked back again.
Pistons fought the first quarter well and were well placed at 19-15 with less than 2 minutes remaining, however the Warriors finished the frame with a 9-0 run, led by Lee to turn the game to their side.
Pistons Lead boosted to 9 points 31-22 after Udoh’s hook shot in the third minute of the second quarter, however this time it was Pistons turn to make a comeback and they did it successfully.
By reeling off a 9-0 run in the ensuing passage, they eliminated the deficit and made it 31 all. Pushing the momentum further, they kept on attacking and by the end of the half were ahead by 48-44.
Greg Monroe starred for the Pistons with a game high 25 points.
He was outstanding in the first three quarters and used his speed to draw many fouls, and netted almost all of his shots from the free throw line (13 for 14). However, in the deciding quarter, he failed to make any sort of impact and remained scoreless throughout
the 12 minutes, which played an important part in the Pistons loss in the end.
Not only Monroe but all the other Pistons ran out of the gas in the second half.
"I think we've done a few things to shorten the moments where we lose our effort and we lose our energy," Monroe said. "In the past few games, they've been shorter, but we've got to get rid of them completely. We're still getting those times when we aren't
working hard, and it costs us."
Tayshaun Prince pounded 20 points 7 rebounds while Ben Gordon drained 15 including 3 for 5 from the long range. Rodney Stuckey came off the bench and bundled 14 points and 6 assists.
Detroit’s coach Frank Lawrence was naturally disappointed with the loss. Dishing out the particulars for the defeat, he added
"They played last night, and we didn't. In this league, with this schedule, you have to be able to grind out these games, and they did a better job than we did. We weren't getting out on the break, and we weren't getting back on defense."
