Golden State Warriors edge out Dallas Mavericks 105-101 in an overtime thriller: NBA Recap
Stephen Curry scored 31 points and dished out 9 assists as Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks 105-101 in overtime, a rare win on the road for the Warriors.
Harrison Barnes had 20 points and 12 rebounds; David Lee was exceptional on both ends as he ended up with 17 points and 19 rebounds for the Warriors.
O.J. Mayo did what he does best; he led the Mavericks with 27 points, he has scored at least 18 points in his last 10 games, but he could not carry the Mavs tonight. Chris Kaman scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds while Troy
Murphy chipped in with 12 points for the Dallas.
Warriors are turning out to a be very strong rebounding team this season as they have outrebounded 6 times so far this season; and they out rebounded Dallas Mavericks 62-43 tonight which led to 19 points off the second chances.
Mavericks’ forward Dirk Nowitzki knee problem kept him on the bench as the 11 time All-Star said that he will announce the status of his right knee to media on Tuesday.
Warriors outscored the Mavs in the first half but only by 5 and Dallas returned the favour in the second half by doing with it the same margin to tie the score and take the game to overtime. Interestingly the Warriors outscored
them by 3 and 2 in the first and second period, while the Mavs outscored them by 3 and 2 in the third and final period.
Stephen Curry was red hot as he scored 20 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. O.J. Mayo on the other end, countered his bucket for bucket down the stretch as he scored 7 out of the Mavericks last 10 points in the
final period and all of their 11 points in the overtime.
"I thought we did a great job of screening and then [Curry] did a great job of coming off aggressively, whether it be to score or make plays. He certainly ran this team down the stretch the way that I envision them running."
Warriors coach Mark Jackson commented on Curry’s performance after the game.
The Dallas were up 87-84 after a Mayo shot from behind the arc with about four minutes in the regulation. Six straight Curry points put the Warriors up 90-88 before Darren Collison made it all square with a jumper to take the game
into overtime.
The Warriors went on rampage with a 7-0 run to jump up 97-90 in no time and seemed to have taken control of the game. But Mayo was there to cancel every point as he scored a 7 nil burst to tie the score at 97.  It was Mayo again
that tied up the score at 99 with a driving layup jump shot, 41.9 seconds left on the clock. A couple of fouls gave away loose points to Warriors which they gladly accepted to jump up 105-99. Mayo made a buzzer beating bank shot but it could only reduce the
deficit, as the Mavericks lost 101-105 in the end.
