Golden State Warriors eyeing a breakthrough in the shortened NBA season
After nearly two years of negotiations and 149 days of Lockout, the NBA owners and players finally reached to a tentative agreement over the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) last Saturday.
The training camps are now expected to start on 9th December while a 66-game season will conceivably tip off on Christmas night, i.e. 25th December.
The reduced games will be a blessing in disguise for many aging elite team such as the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers and will give them the opportunity to be fresher once they make it to the playoffs.
However, for the Western Conference underdogs Golden State Warriors a shortened season brings forward a challenge to make an impact in the first season under the new head coach Mark Jackson.
The 46-year-old Jackson was hired by the Warriors on 6th June 2011. However, the NBA locked out is players on 1st of July upon the expiration of the old CBA and as a result Mark Jackson did not have enough
time interact with his team.
When the league does get back to business, his first emphasis will be to orientate with his new team and try to inculcate his playing philosophy in them. Jackson is not the one to shy away though and is ready to hit the ground
running in his very first year as a NBA coach. His team is certainly motivated to facilitate him.
Dorell Wright, who joined the Warriors last season and posted a career best in almost every aspect of the game is confident that the transition to a new coaching philosophy.
"Man, the only thing that comes to my mind is FINALLY. I'm really looking forward to getting back in the gym with my teammates and new coaches. Everyone is coming in ready to work, so it shouldn't be too hard getting on the same
page with him as a coach. We're all going to buy into his system." Wright said.
Although, the Warriors comparatively had a better season last time around however, their quest of making a post-season trip remained unfulfilled. This is what Warriors will be looking at in the upcoming season and a shortened season
might just work well for them.
