Golden State Warriors forward Dorell Wright cherishes his China trip – NBA Update
Dorell Wright, who plays for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA, went on a tour of China in the summer and talked about his experience in a recent interview. The All-Star 3-point shootout contestant said he always wanted to have such experiences and was thoroughly pleased with the visit.
Wright is one of many NBA players who go to foreign tours during the off season. Since Yao Ming came to the NBA back in 2002, China has become a very popular destination for NBA stars and a big market for the league. Stars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are huge in China and sell loads of merchandise in the country.
Wright revealed in the interview that it was an extra special tour for him as he has always wanted to visit the Far East.
“It was a great experience having the opportunity to go to China. I always wanted to go there since I was a kid.”
The Warriors man was busy in China promoting his new shoe for Peak. Dorell was pleased with the response he got in the billion strong nation and hoped he will help Peak develop a strong market in the country.
“Peak put on a great event, going out there, promoting the shoes… We had a great time, I got the opportunity to see how they lived, went to a lot of schools, met a lot of new people… A great time. I visited Shanghai, Beijing and a lot of small cities that I can’t really remember the name. I thought it was going to be more crowded areas, but it wasn’t like that. Tried different foods… Like I said, it was fun.”
Dorell Wright is just one of many NBA stars cashing in on their popularity in the commercial market. Most NBA players sign huge endorsement deals with everyone from sportswear makers to airlines. Many NBA stars then spent a lot of their time shooting ad campaigns or going on promotional tours for said companies.
In the case of Wright that fame is new found. Dorell was at the Miami Heat last season before LeBron James and Chris Bosh arrived at South Beach. Once a new power trio was formed in Miami, Dorell decide to leave in order to further himself as a player.
His subsequently joined the Golden State Warriors and his stock has gone up considerably with the franchise. Dorell is part of an exciting young team and matured into one of the better shooters in the league. His performance at the All-Star weekend in the 3-point contest has also helped to put him on the map.
