Golden State Warriors forward Louis Amundson is healthy and ready to help the team: NBA Update
Golden state Warriors big man Louis Amundson, who had an unpleasant 2010-2011 season on and off the court, is nurturing his way back to health and rearing to help his team in the next season, whenever it starts.
The 6 ft 9 in power forward Amundson was never expected to be a difference-maker when Golden State Warriors acquired him through free agency last season. Gifted with a big physique and great athleticism, Louis Amundsen’s role was
more of a post player and a defensive specialist – a player who can relieve David Lee from time to time.
However, Louis did not even live up to those expectations because of a spate of unexpected injuries, he faced after coming into the franchise.
The 28-year-old player had a finger injury at the start of the 2010-2011 season and as a result he was benched for five weeks. And when Louis was striving to perform with his sore finger, another injury struck. In February, Amundson
was benched for another three weeks due to back spasms.
Even during the games when Louis Amundson was relatively healthy, Golden State Warriors’ former head coach Keith Smart didn’t use him consistently. In fact, the big man didn’t play seven times on coach decision.
During the 46 games that Amundson did play for the Warriors last season, he averaged 4.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in an average of 15 minutes of playing time. In that period, his shooting percentage dropped down slightly
from the last season, when he played in Phoenix Suns’ uniform.
However now, after a workout session with his teammates, Amundson is confident that he is on a comeback trail.
“In retrospect, how I feel now with how I felt then. I wanted to feel like I was a 100 percent but knowing how I feel, I definitely wasn't. That's difficult when you want to play and play at a high level and your body just won't
let you. With the finger and the back, it was a tough season. Obviously I want to stay healthy this year. It's unfortunate, everybody wants to play. In my case, coming off a year I didn't perform like I wanted, and I was injured a lot of the season, I really
feel like I have unfinished business." I want to get out there and show everybody up there in the Bay what I can do."
Whether the Warriors big man, lives up to his proclamations, remains to be seen. However, if he does and the Warriors manage to hold on to their current roster, they will certainly be a team to content with next season.
