Golden State Warriors freeze down the stretch to gift Portland Trail Blazers a 90-87 win: NBA Recap
Raymond Felton scored 24 points and seven assists, LaMarcus Aldridge had 18 points with 9 rebounds and the Portland Trail Blazers edged out the Golden State Warriors 90-87 on Sunday night at the Rose Garden.
Nicolas Batum contributed 17 points, 8 boards and 3 blocks for the Trail Blazers, who also got 10 points from Wesley Mathews.
The Warriors started Charles Jenkins ahead of Nate Robinson at the point guard position and the move worked wonders. The guard who had been averaging 2.8 points and 1.5 assists in a little over 10 minutes per game this season thumped a game high 27 points on a 13-of-22 shooting and also dished out 6 assists for Golden State.
David Lee was tremendous with 16 points and 16 rebounds, Klay Thompson also had 16 while Ryan Jefferson came off the bench for 14 points.
The Trail Blazers got off to a solid start and were leading by 17-11 inside the first five minutes of the game. However a late 12-4 run put the Warriors ahead by 27-26.
Portland started the second quarter on five consecutive points to regain the lead, but the missed eight shots in a row to allow the Warriors a 32-31 lead. Portland were horrible from the field after in the last 11 minutes of the second quarter, making only 4 of the 22 shots attempted. The Warriors however could not capitalize completely and managed to get only seven points clear at halftime, 47-40.
The Trail Blazers started to make shots in the third and with 8:08 remaining in the third quarter, a three point by Mathews made it a 4 point game, 49-53.
A Jenkins jumper later, the hosts blazed away, capping the quarter with a 20-8 run, to take a 69-63 lead into the final 12 minutes.
The Warriors came right back into the game with a 14-3 burst, converting a six point deficit into a 77-72 lead. A couple of three pointers from Felton again turned the equation in the Portland’s favour, but Brandon Rush responded with a couple of treys of his own to put Golden State ahead at 85-80. In the last 3:37 though, the Warriors only managed a tip in from Lee to allow the Trail Blazers a 10-2 run and a come from behind win.
