Golden State Warriors’ head Coach Keith Smart is willing to stay with his team: NBA Update
The Golden State Warriors’ head coach, Keith Smart, is willing to stay with his current team. He made a strong statement in the local news paper after many people criticised his current NBA season’s performance and the way he coached the Warriors.
The real trouble came for Smart when the Warriors’ owner, Joe Lacob, spoke out in the media on Monday explaining about Smart’s future. Lacob said that Smart will not be joining the Warriors immediately after the next season instead his next appointment’s decision will take couple of weeks.
Smart told the newspaper when he said, “I would say that anywhere else, other than right here, people would look at it and say it was a good season, I’ve done everything I could possibly do, and for some strange reason, people (don’t recognize it). Anywhere else in the country, people would say we are moving in the right direction...”
The main objection Smart is receiving from many critics is that he has failed to deliver the desired performance level this in this particular season. In fact the Golden State’s roster includes a mix of balanced and talented players.
Smart also explained his position while evaluating his personal success during his span, after coming into Golden State as a head coach. He compared the excellent environment of the current locker room to the previous tensed atmosphere in the same locker room.
Smart told the media about his present, relatively, consistent success with the team and the future plans to compete in this tough competition with grace in years ahead.
Smart said, “In a small capsule, we've done some things that have shown moments of success, we know that the ultimate success is getting to the playoffs, and then the next year and the year after that, and then eventually bringing a championship here to the Bay Area.”
Currently the Golden State Warriors are at 12th position in the Western Conference but the Warriors are 11 games well ahead in winning proportion from the last season. The Warriors have won 35 games and lost 46 games in this season.
Smart also seemed not much pleased as many people were expecting high results from this year’s comparatively new roster. He also described his point explaining the fact of currently constructed team and their short-comings.
Smart took over the Warriors’ coaching responsibility from Don Nelson in 2010. Smart signed a one year contract with only a partial guarantee for the next season from the Warriors’ management.
The Golden State Warriors will be playing their last match of the season against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at the Oracle Arena.
