Golden State Warriors newly acquired centre Kwame Brown out for three months - NBA Update
Golden State Warriors, under the new coach Mark Jackson, are slowly but gradually gaining some rhythm. On Tuesday night, they stunned the mighty Miami Heat to prove a point; they are not a team that can be taken lightly in the season ahead.
Unfortunately, just when everything looked like getting better for them, something calamitous happened, that has potential to hurt the team’s chances of reaching the NBA playoffs.
Centre Kwame Brown, who just like his team was slowly getting better with every game, is ruled out of NBA for at least three months, because of a chest injury that he picked just few days ago. He will be undergoing surgery in a few days and his season with Warriors has probably prematurely ended.
Brown picked the injury in the final quarter of the game against the Heat in trying to draw a foul from Heat’s Udonis Haslem. Apparently it was not a serious injury but further tests stated that Brown ruptured his shoulder muscle, and such injuries can take minimum three months to heal.
So this is a major setback for the team and for the coach Jackson.
"Tough loss," Jackson said. "I'll tell you, this guy has done everything we've asked him to do. He's brought a toughness and a presence to this basketball team. Tough loss for us. Even sitting out there with his shirt on (Tuesday night), still being part of the team, he was a jewel for us."
Kwame is an experienced campaigner.
In his eleven years career, he has represented as many as 5 teams so far. This season, he was acquired by Warriors in order to strengthen the defence of the team.
Warriors are in a rebuilding phase after they lost their two main players Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan to New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers respectively earlier in December 2010. They were hoping to build the team around Brown and Warriors backbone, center Andris Biedrins, but now with Brown out of the scene it looks very difficult.
Warriors’ General Manager also expressed his disappointment
"It's a blow. I've struggled since I've been here to try to get us a player with some size and a physical presence in the middle. And I was quite hopeful that with Andris Biedrins and Kwame Brown's presence in the middle”
Hopefully Warriors make it to the playoffs, because that is the only way Kwame would be able to play for them next season.
