Golden State Warriors not interested in Andre Drummond – NBA Report
University of Connecticut centre Andre Drummond is one player that has been discussed, adored and criticized at the same time, heading into the NBA draft.
The towering 6 ft 11 in player big is a athletic option, but his lack of experience and immaturity is something the top ten pick holders will not take a chance with.
There is a strong possibility that New Orleans Hornets will select Kentucky’s Anthony Davis as the 1st pick. Will Drummond become the 2nd pick is a question that is still looming large.
Most recently Golden State Warriors officials flew to Big Apple to witness his game, but Jerry West, Warriors executive said that they don’t have any interest in Andre.
West, during an interview with CSN Bay Area’s Chronicle Live shared his thoughts about the draft.
“We don’t want a player you’re going to have to wait on for two years,” West said on Chronicle Live. “We want someone who can play right away.”
Keeping Drummond’s stature in mind his above mentioned statement makes it clear that Warriors will not draft him. He was previously considered to be drafted by Charlotte Bobcats as number 2 pick but now after several mock drafts,
he is slipping down to 7th or even lower picks.
As for Warriors they are interested in a player like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, tough minded, superstar material player. They don’t have a single superstar in their squad and Warriors current roster is filled with rookies. Jerry West
expressed his desires at the same CSN platform.
“Let me tell you something, the most difficult players to find are dirty-work players,” West said. “And I don’t mean that in the sense of beating people up. I mean that every single night you know they’re going to compete”.
Golden State has 7th and 30th pick in the 1st round and 35th and 52nd in the 2nd round, there is a possibility that they will trade all of their picks for quality
and experienced players from other franchises.
According to the sources close to the franchise, the Warriors are willing to offer their number 7 pick and Dorell Wright to Philadelphia 76ers and in return they are hoping to land Andre Iguodala.
Warriors, in the past 18 seasons, have only once made it into the post season and according to West their biggest weakness is that they lack toughness.
“One of the things, I think, this team really lacks is toughness. This year we’re going to get some toughness.”
They are also working on the possibility to rope in Nicolas Batum from Portland Trail Blazers or Luol Deng from Chicago Bulls.
