Golden State Warriors not interested in drafting injured Jared Sullinger anymore - NBA Report
Ohio State sophomore Jared Sullinger was expected to be a part of the NBA Draft last summer, but he chose not to enter and after doing so this time, he was expected to be among the top ten picks. However, ever since he has been
red-flagged by the NBA doctors, the prospects of one of this years’ sensation have started to dwindle.
Sullinger has been diagnosed with issues in his back and according to some reports; his prime suitors in Golden State Warriors have decided to back off.
Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News tweeted on June 20th that Warriors are not going to draft Jared.
“No surprise: The medical red flag on Jared Sullinger means GSWs are not considering him for #7 pick. They weren't that high on him anyway”. He said.
The 6 ft 9 in power forward averaged 17.3 points and 9.7 boards during his 2 years of tenure with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Sullinger and his father have expressed their disappointment and have vowed to keep preparing. His father was of the view that the back issue is not serious and has surfaced because of tight quads.
Speaking to ESPN, Jared’s father tried to do some damage control. He said that his son is taking care of the injured back and visiting doctors regularly. In addition to that, he is doing stretching exercises;
“The flexibility is helping take the pressure off the area. We've got nothing to hide. At this stage it's all about what they can't do. Jared is a skilled player. A two-time All-American. He can play."
Sullinger has been busy participating in the pre-draft workout camps with various franchises. Over the past month he worked out with Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Hornets and Detroit Pistons, all having the
top picks.
Interestingly, there is still some hope left as he will be working out with Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. Cavs grabbed the number 4 and 24 picks in the lottery earlier this month.
One of the factor could have also forced the Warriors to withdraw from the young forward is that they already have a good option available in David Lee at that position and with a load of rookies to back him up. There most immediate
need at the moment is a solid small forward and it would come as a surprise if they don’t use their pick on a winger.
