Golden State Warriors open for business; eying to make a deal before March 15th deadline - NBA Update
Golden State Warriors front officehas been trying really hard for the last few years to turn the team into one of the elite in the NBA.
In 2009, they tried to acquire Amar’e Stoudemire from the Suns, almost acquired DeAndre Jordan and gave everything to get Los Angeles Clippers' Chris Paul as well this season.
Despite the fact that those deals never materialized, the Warriors have not let their pursuit down and after yet another below par season start, the team management has stepped up the ante in order to make a few changes to the roster.
According to team’s General Manager Larry Riley, the team is pursuing a deal before the March 15th deadline.
"We're working day and night and we're hopeful," Riley told. "But what will not happen is, we won't do something that sets us back just to do a deal. We want to find the right deal, and if we get one of those we'll do it. I don't know what the odds of it are right now."
Riley, however dismissed the notion that the team’s bad start has much to do with their new move. According to him, the team was already eyeing the trade deadline.
Warriors’ record, which is 12-17 this NBA season, could have been a lot better had they managed to hold nerves in the closing moments of the games. In nine of the 17 losses so far, they let the game slip in the clutch.
"We recognize we need to get better whatever our record is. Let's say we'd won half of those close games. We could be a .500 team. I think we'd be pushing real hard. I guess I would have to be honest with you and say that if we're 20-8, then things change”
The statement of pursuing trade came just a day after Warriors outstanding win over the Los Angeles Clippers, so it is safe to assume that the management had already made its mind and are dead serious of adding new face to the roster.
It would be interesting to see now who they try to acquire and who they let go in return. The deadline is less than a month away and for sure, they have figured out their targets.
