Golden State Warriors owners vow to make Oracle Arena more entertaining – NBA Update
The Golden State Warriors are another small market team trying to make it big. The Warriors have smart new owners in place with Peter Guber and Joe Lacob, who are taking a keen interest in the development of the franchise. Guber
recently sat down for an interview and revealed how he was looking at little details to make the Warriors in-arena experience more worthwhile for the fans.
Golden State Warriors are a franchise with some history, unlike most small market teams. They have been around for a while and boasted one of the most famous and entertaining trios in basketball in the form of Run-TMC. That stands
for Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin. Mullin even recently got inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Now the owners want to make a trip to the Oracle Arena a more fun experience for the fans, even without the basketball.
“You’re putting on a performance every day,” Guber said. “Doing it exactly the same in another market, wouldn’t work, but the secret sauce anywhere is being interested in the audience, not just be interesting to the audience…”
This Guber plans on achieving with more health-food options, maybe with cheerleaders and dance routines, or pyrotechnic. Basically, it’s anything that could help to better entertain the fans who show up 1 1/2 hours before tip-off.
They idea is to build basketball up as the main event in a night full of entertainment and joy for the fans who make the trip.
“We need constant and never-ending improvement,” Guber said. “I mean, we’ve got no (spot)light at center court. That’s simple drama. … Our music sometimes sounds like it was chosen by a passing truck. No detail is small, but we
can’t fix every detail all at once. I ain’t the master of the universe, but I’ll take my shot.”
The approach has worked at the Dallas Mavericks where Mark Cuban has turned the whole thing into a roller coaster ride for anyone who comes and visits the American Airlines Center. It is perhaps what small market teams need to
do in order to be profitable and attract large crowds in a downhill economy.
However at the end of the day, GSW know that the best way to sustain a good fan base is by putting a good product out on the court and achieving some lasting success. The Mavs are very flash off the court but their fanatic support
is sustained through stars like Dirk Nowitzki and the success that they can bring to the franchise.
Golden State also seemed to be geared towards the same model and they hired basketball legend Jerry West to give them a hand. It would be interesting to see what direction the franchise takes with the new setup.
