Golden State Warriors point guard Acie Law heads to Serbia without an out clause: NBA Update
The point guard of the Golden State Warriors Acie Law is taking his talents overseas, it has emerged. The 26 year old guard has reportedly inked a one year deal with a Serbian basketball club Partizan.
According to this deal, Law will earn $500,000, but his contract does not include escape clause therefore he would not be able to return to the States, if the lockout ends during his deal’s tenure. Law’s agent Mark Bartlestein
confirmed the news today.
During 2010, Law changed three franchises. He started with the Chicago Bulls, who had signed him in February. Then in August, Law signed a one year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, but they released him in December, after he
had played just 11 games for them. Law made way to the Warriors then and later opted out of the contract to test the waters in the free agency market this season.
However, the league imposed the lockout on July 1, after the franchise owners and players union failed to reach an accord over the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The first thing lockout gulped was the free agency market.
This left no choice for Law and in order to survive the lockout, he decided to sign a contract with the Serbian team without the out clause. Since Law is a free agent, therefore he does not require a clearance letter from FIBA
to ink a deal in a foreign club.
Although, Law’s pact is not jewel studded, however it will ensure that he gets his salary every month in the middle of the lockout. Even if Law even had a contract with a National Basketball Association team, he wouldn’t have been
earning more than this contract. He was never a constant player for any of the teams he played with and was yet to play a whole season in NBA.
Law is also known by the name of "Captain Clutch" because of his exceptional skill to capture the game late. Law touched the fame when he hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer that defeated the arch-rival (Texas Longhorns) of the
Aggie and the fans started calling him “The Shot”.
On top of that his play against Kansas which Aggie won in a dramatic fashion earned him lot of fame among the Aggie basketball fans. Those fans though will have to follow him with Partizan though.
