Golden State Warriors present DeAndre Jordan a 4 year - $ 43 million contract - NBA Update
The 23 year old sensation DeAndre Jordan, who was selected by Clippers in 2008 NBA draft, has certainly found his value in the last three years. The young centre, who is restricted free agent this off season, has been offered a
four year $ 43 million contract by the Golden State Warriors.
However as per sources, the Clippers are in no mood to let him go anywhere. Their General Manager, Neil Olshey recently confirmed that in an interview to ESPN and insisted that retaining DeAndre is amongst the top priorities of
the team at the moment.
"We're committed to the core group we have. We've been building slowly and we're in a great position to capitalize on that now with our cap flexibility. But we know that our existing players are a priority."
As per the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Clippers have just three days to match the $ 43 million offer in order to retain Jordan. Clippers super star, Blake Griffin, who is quite close to Jordan is confident, Jordan
will be seen in Clippers outfit this season. When asked if he thought the 23 year old would return, he added
"I'm confident. I think that's somewhat of a main thing for us, as Neil has said. But as a friend of DJ's, I think he needs to do what's best for him. I think he thinks this might be, and I think we feel the same way."
In Griffin’s first season at the Clippers, the side showed signs of resurgence but failed to make an impression. This off season, the Clippers have been very busy in getting the right people for the job. The inclusion of Dallas
Maverick’s star Caron Butler and the probable trade of Chris Kaman in coming days are some indicators and as of today, there are reports that star New Orleans Hornets swingman, Chris Paul is also interested in joining the Clips.
It’s still early days for Jordan in NBA and his career average is also not that impressive. But last season, with a few breathtaking performances, he proved that he has everything in his arsenal that could help him in emerging
as an elite player. He finished with an average of 7.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and keeping in mind, it was only his third year; he is potentially yet another double-double machine in the making.
It will be interesting to see if he makes it to the Warriors or remains in his old team, but whichever he selects, he surely will be a delight to watch.
