Golden State Warriors pull away with victory over Atlanta Hawks – NBA Recap
The Golden State Warriors were able to improve to a 4-4 record when they defeated the Atlanta Hawks 92-88 on Wednesday night at the ORACLE Arena in Oakland. The Warriors outscored the Hawks 32-25 in the second period and were able
to survive a fourth quarter comeback by the Hawks to eventually pick up the victory. Harrison Barnes led the Warriors with 19 points and 13 rebounds, where as David Lee finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists on the night. Louis Williams came off
the bench to once again lead the Hawks in scoring, finishing with 18 points and 6 assists. Josh Smith added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while going 6 of 16 from the field.
Atlanta got off to a 6-0 start, but the Warriors neutralized that with a 6-0 run of their own to tie the game at 6. A three pointer by Klay Thompson had the Warriors leading 11-9, but a pull up jumper by Ivan Johnson had them leading
18-15. Carl Landry tied the game for the Warriors at 20 with a reverse layup, and later scored another layup to give his team a 22-21 lead at the end of the period.
Landry opened the scoring in the second period with two free throws, and Jarrett Jack followed with a three pointer to extend the Warriors lead to 27-21. Draymond Green then scored a three pointer for the Warriors, putting them
up 35-28. The Hawks made a run for the lead but a three pointer by Barnes ensured the Warriors held a 41-37 lead, and five straight points by Lee had them up 46-39. The Warriors led 54-46 at halftime.
Atlanta scored the first five points to open the third period and move within three of the Warriors, but back to back field goals by Barnes ensured that the Warriors held on to a 63-55 lead. The Warriors scored the final two field
goals of the third period to enter the final 12 minutes of action with a 71-60 lead.
Atlanta started the final period with an 8-4 run to trail 68-75, and a fade away by Williams later in the period had them trailing by only four points. The Warriors replied by scoring five straight points to extend their lead back
up to 86-77, but a three pointer by Williams had the Hawks trailing 88-90 with 11 seconds left. The Hawks decided to foul Jack, who nailed both free throws and the Hawks lost the game in the end.
The Warriors had a 44-29 advantage over Atlanta in rebounds, and shot slightly better from the field. Stephen Curry finished with 12 points for the Warriors, where as Landry had 10 on the night. Ivan Johnson finished with 15 points
for Atlanta, going 7 of 8 from the field. Kyle Korver had 14 points on the night.
