Golden State Warriors star Dorell Wright preaches patience over the NBA lockout
Golden State Warriors star Dorell Wright has appealed for a patient approach regarding the NBA labour dispute. While most people are becoming increasingly sceptical as the lockout enters its third month, Wright believes these things
take time and eventually a way forward will be found.
The NBA owners and the players union have been negotiating on and off for more than a year and a half now. However the differences between the two sides remain and no one seems to want to concede any ground.
The owners want to take a much larger share from the BRI in the new CBA. They are also looking to get in place regulations regarding contracts that would favour them. The players oppose virtually all of the suggestions, although
they are willing to take some salary cuts.
Many pundits in the media, and even some people involved in the negotiations, have openly stated that the NBA season for 2011-2012 is more likely not to take place than to take place on time. However Warriors man Wright believes
that people are jumping the gun a little.
Wright said in the interview that all things take time and it was only natural that such complex discussions have stretched out a bit. He believed in the end both sides would come to an agreement because the loss of an NBA season
is not in the interests of either.
“Everything will find its way. It will take a little time and we have to have patience, but I think everything will work its course. Both sides are doing their best to get the best deal. Guys don’t want to miss time. I have people
who keep me updated with the whole situation.
Meetings between the NBA owners and players have picked up over the last week or so. The two sides only met twice over the span of the first two months of the NBA lockout, during which time they also cancelled one scheduled meeting.
They have since been meeting more regularly.
Wright said he wanted to be in the know and would be willing to turn up for one of the sessions.
“I was out of the country when they had a meeting in L.A. Next time I’m definitely there.”
The player has been keeping busy this summer playing plenty of basketball. He has been around the United States playing in games in different Pro-am leagues, such as the Drew League and the San Francisco League. Those games are
notorious for the trash talking; something Dorell admitted goes on,
“[Laughs] Oh, there’s a lot of trash talking. Guys really try to go at you and talk a lot of trash, but at the end of the day it’s about competing.”
