Golden State Warriors trounce Sacramento Kings 115 – 89: NBA Recap
On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors rolled on to a 3 game winning streak after trouncing Sacramento Kings 115-89 here at the Power Balance Pavilion.
Even though Warriors bid farewell to their lead scorer Monta Ellis, who is being traded to Milwaukee Bucks, the departure couldn’t stop Golden State from displaying a brilliant show as 6 players’ recorded double figures.
David Lee, Nate Robinson and Brandon Rush netted 17 points each; Charles Jenkins tallied 15, Dorell Wright had a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
Coach Mark Jackson had mixed feelings after the game as, on one hand he witnessed the departure of forward Ekpe Udoh, centre Kwame Brown and Monta Ellis and on the other he had an impressive win.
"I'm awfully proud of these guys because it was an emotionally draining day for us. We had three guys that we are attached to, and it hurts. This is a business, but it hurts."
Despite losing their top scorer, Golden State pulled away in the 2nd half; they claimed a double digit lead in the 3rd quarter and never looked back, augmenting it to 26 by the end of game.
DeMarcus Cousins tallied a game high 19 points and 12 rebounds, but couldn’t help his team avert their 28th loss of the season. Tyreke Evans chipped in with 16 and Isaiah Thomas poured in 15 points while Francisco Garcia
collected 11 coming off the bench.
Warriors opened the game with a 10 – 4 run and stretched their lead to 23-17 deep into the frame. Sacramento clawed that off after reeling a 7-1 run and tied the sores at 24 apiece. Golden State quickly created breathing space
with 5 unanswered points and capped off the segment with a 29-24 margin.
Dominic McGuire started the 2nd frame with a layup and pushed Warriors further ahead; 31-24. However Sacramento trimmed the lead to 31-30 with a 6-0 run. The scores remained close afterwards but the Warriors held the
upper hand still, and a 12 – 8 phases to the end the period put them up 54 – 49.
After some back and forth action in the 3rd, the visitors managed to augment their lead to 76-71 deep through the frame. They then capped off the segment with an 8-2 run and claimed an 84-73 advantage.
Warriors blasted their way into the 4th quarter with a 14-4 run; widening the gap to 98-77. In the ensuing passage, Sacramento could only reduce the gap to 98-80, before the away side raced away with another 10-2 run
and grabbed a mammoth 108-82 lead.
Sacramento haplessly tried to reduce their margin of defeat but they could only come as close as 115-89 by the end.
