Golden Ticket turns in five furlongs ahead of Breeders’ Cup Classic
Magic City Thoroughbred Partners’ Golden Ticket took some time to break his maiden and get into stakes company, and the Ken McPeek trained 3-year-old colt once broke his maiden on his 6th attempt, proved hard to contain by more accomplished sophomore
colts.
One such performance was when ended first in a deadheat with, Alpha, in the most prestigious and the oldest race at Saratoga, the Grade 1 Travers Stakes, and apart from that particular race, Golden Ticket has been hitting the board frequently against graded
company.
Ken McPeek has now opted for the Grade 1, $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic for Golden Ticket, and in preparation for the 1 ½ mile test, the Classic hopeful turned in his second work at Keeneland on 13 October, 2012, over the venue’s Polytrack.
The 3-year-old colt by Speightstown breezed five furlongs in 1 minute and 1/5 seconds under rider Danny Ramsey, and the duo’s work was broken down into fractions, as they went 12 2/5 seconds, 24 seconds for the quarter mile, and 35 4/5 seconds and 47 3/5
seconds for the half-mile.
Golden Ticket galloped out six furlongs in 1 minute and 14 2/5 seconds, and posted the 10th fastest work out of 32 workers at the distance.
"It was really nice," said Ken McPeek, who trains Golden Ticket for Magic City Thoroughbred Partners. "He was getting across it good, and he just needed a nice maintenance breeze. Last week, we took him a really easy, easy, easy half. This week he needed
to stretch out and get a little wind in him."
Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, Golden Ticket was purchased as a juvenile at last year's Keeneland Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, and he has gone on to make three starts at the track, with two failed attempts at maiden special weights, where he finished
third and fourth, respectively.
He made his graded stakes debut at Keeneland, in the Grade 3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes at about 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack and finished fifth to winner, All Squared Away.
Golden Ticket is currently exiting third place in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on 22 September.
