  1. My Golden is the same way, he has more hair than a Husky. The shampoos can only do so much with controlling the hair loss and control. Instead, I went to my nearest Petco. There they were able to trim his hair and somewhat groom it. They ask that you bring back your dog three days later for a shed control shampoo and treatment. After trying all of the home shampoos, the Petco treatment they did was the best. He barely sheds anymore.

If you are trying to do it with just the shampoos and home grooming tools consider bathing him once a week. Here are some directions on how to do so:

    1. Rinse down the dog with your garden hose. Make sure the entire body is wet and any dirt is washed loose.

    2. Apply your preferred shampoo ALL over the body. Make sure to work the wash into him. Massage it into a lather on his body.

    3. Let the shampoo sit for five minutes.

    4. After, rinse him down completely withdrawing all shampoo and wash.

    5. Get a towel and dry him until he is damp.

    6. Let him shake the rest off.

    7. About one our later, use a brush and a "hair rake" to loosen and free a lot of hair from his body. A lot of hair should break free, almost in clumps.

    8. Comb him smooth, and he is good for up to 2 weeks.

You should consider the shed treatment that Petco has to offer, it is wonderful.

In order to get a "hair rake" and comb visit your nearest PetSmart or Petco.

  2. My golden sheds tons of fur, when she rubs up against ur leg the fur just starts flying. she is only 1yr old too. its like if u just put ur hand on her and not even move it fur comes off on ur hand. if it this doesnt make u feel better i have heard that changing a dogs diet can make them have changes with their coat. but really to tell u the truth goldens eat everything from rocks to sticks and bugs they just lose hair like crazy, i wouldnt worry to much about it .

  3. It may be an allergic reaction to his food... most dogs are allergic to corn which is found in many dog foods.  We were given a 2 year old G.R. from a friend and her coat was thinning, after researching we found she was allergic to corn.  We changed to a brand called Canidae and after a month or so her coat became thicker and darker.

My suggestion would be to change to a corn free dog food and see if anything changes!

  4. go to petsmart. they recommended me a product for this but i forgot the name because it was years ago

  5. My Golden sheds loads, and especially now in the summer. Don't bathe your golden twice a month, just once. And if your dog is going in a pool or lake often, that causes a lot of hair to come off too. Call your vet just in case though, don't just assume he's ok because that's what people on here told you.

    Good Luck! :)

  6. Like you said, it could be that he is losing his "baby" fur. He could also be shedding because it's summer. Animals with fur tend to do that because it gets so hot.

  7. I was thinking that this was just normal shedding until you mentioned a bald spot.  Hmmm.  I don't think the shampoo is the cause.  Try brushing and combing him daily during the shedding seasons.  Then, if there are actual bald spots, please take him to vour vet.

  8. I had a similar situation with my golden and  got to the point that I had hims shaved. I thought this was a summer thing and did this.

After that I found an old fashion cure to help Toby's hair. I went and bought Witch-hazel and and mint extract and mixed them together and put this on his hair like conditioner.

Toby has been gone from my life for 3 years but he looked and smelled great when I used this on him.

Finding the Witch-Hazel was very hard though but if you search online you can find it.

Now granted Golden's do shed a lot but I think you are talking about a situation I think I went through

    Good Luck AFriend

  9. well my neighbors used to have a golden, and his fur was always falling out. if your dogs fur keeps falling out for more than a month or so, i would take him to the vet just to be safe, but its probably nothing

  10. When you say you buy shampoo at Walmart, is it pet shampoo or human shampoo?

Also, it really could just be shedding. My dog sheds everytime we pet him (he's a chesapeake bay retriever). My friend breeds golden retrievers and their dog sheds a lot too.

    Don't worry.

And just a question... why are you in the birds section?
