I park outside and this goldfinch likes to come and sit on the mirrors. Problem is, he gets p**p all over and also smudges the mirrors up. What can I do to get him to stay away from my car?

  1. Go out and get those gallon sized ziplock bags and thin rubber bands to cover your mirrors. Chances are, the bird will not like the plastic and will eventually learn to avoid your car. If it doesn't then at least your car will be protected.

I would not go the animal cruelty route. That's just ignorant.

  2. Park in a different spot outside... : /

  3. put out a sticky bait for mice where the finch likes to sit... the bird will stick to it, take him and...well, you get the picture...

  4. Try using toy snakes, they come in all sizes. They can be attached to the mirrors using string or thin wire. Birds and snakes are natural enemie.

  5. lol...I sympathize with you.

I parked in a lot where a red winged blackbird loved to come every morning and perch on my radio antenna even before I got out of the car.  He had claimed my car and several others in the lot as his own private privy.  One of the gal started putting a plastic bag over her side mirrors so at least part of the mess was removable.  Another one started tying a plastic owl to her antenna, but I'm not sure either idea worked.

My husband has sparrows actually start to build nests in between his windshield wipers where he's park.  Every day he'd have to take branches and grass from in between the windshield and the car hood.

I don't have the solution.  However I'd rather clean off the mess than do something awful to the birds.  Gotta learn to share our world cause it's theirs too.

Keep your good humor till you find a green solution.
