Goldfish and Neons tankmates?

Are goldfish and neons good tankmates? I recently lost all of my Comets and a oranda leaving one last oranda alone. I've heard that they like buddies, so I want to get him a tankmate. I like Neons and I know they dont get too big since I don't have too space so I thought they might be good for my oranda? Should I stick with another oranda? Any thoughts or suggestions?

  1. No.  Goldfish are cold water carp that are vegetarian and give off an excessive amount of waste.  Neons need a stable heated aged aquarium with fish that don't get 10 times their size.  These fish do not match at all.  If you lost all of your comets there is a major problem with how you are taking care of your fish because goldfish are near impossible to kill.  Please do some reading about basic aquarium maintenance and move on from there.

  2. stick with the oranda, you don`t want to mix any other fish with gold fish, they just produce to much ammonia,,,their dirty fish.

  3. Yeah, there are no problems unless your neons are not that small and your goldfish are not giants.

  4. No, Goldfish like cooler waters around 65-72  tetras are warm tropical they like 75-78 aside from that a goldfish could possibly eat the tetras...not a good Idea...If your tank is 30-55 gallons get another goldfish...If it in 20-30 gallons just stick with the one you have.  If it is any smaller its time to upgrade.

  5. depends on how big the gold fish are if they can fit in the goldfishes mouth then no

  6. The only fish you should be keeping with your oranda are other goldfish, so if you want to get him a friend, get another fancy goldfish.  "Glofish" are just modified zebra danios, and while they can tolerate cooler temps than most tropical community fish, they are still not suitable tankmates for goldfish.

  7. yeah there fine i have three goldfish and one neon there 4 peas in pod

  8. yes, as long as they are the little goldfish and not the fantailed goldfish.  Fantailed goldfish shred other fish!
