Question:

Goldfish and oscars?

I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 blood parrots and 1 oscar cichlid. I also have a 10 gallon tank with 2 goldfish. Im going to get rid of the goldfish, but can't for about a month. I was wondering if the goldfish would be ok to be in a tank with an oscar for a few weeks. My oscar isn't aggressive at all. He even lives with a female betta without a problem.

What do you think about that?

  1. Well, first of all, a 55 gallon tank is the bare minimum for ONE oscar, if you have no other fish, so your tank is already overstocked.  And now, you should not keep your goldfish with the oscar, or the betta, for that matter--oscars WILL eat anything they can fit in their mouths, even if it isn't right away.

[edit] Your oscar produces a lot of ammonia too.  Putting the goldfish in that tank WOULD cause an ammonia problem.

If you have absolutely no other alternative, then you can *try* it, but don't be surprised if your goldfish get eaten.  I strongly recommend finding a different solution.

  2. chuck them in i have a  brasiliensis who lives with guppies if there laid back fish then thats great
