My goldfish is gasping for air, but not at the surface. Is there any reason's why he would be gasping suddenly (he wasn't before but then started) and is swimming around crazy flapping it's gills, etc, beside's him choking?

  1. They don't breath through their mouths.  They sometimes do that with food or after picking up gravel to sift for food.

  2. there is not enough oxygen in the water

    get him an airpump

  3. Probably your PH balance is off, so there isn't enough oygen in his water. I would suggest lowering your water halfway and filling it up with new water (take the fish out and put him in a holding tank.) Wait till the water is on the colder side and allow the bubbles to go away from the top. If your fish's symptoms still persist call your local veterinarian or call a pet store on what they would suggest to do. Good luck! I also concur that you should get a pump for him because it will help the oygen get spread around. You may have to change the filter in your air pump because it does get dirty.

  4. ask ur vet

  5. 1. Change 1/3 of the tank water to fresh water

2.dont feed it for a day

    3. it depends on the type of gravel you have

    4. if he can swallow, nothing wrong
