  1. What kind of goldfish is he and does he have tank mates?  When female goldfish fill up with eggs, they bulge on one side of their bodies.  You say he is strating to curl his tail but I am not sure what you are trying to say.  Don't flush him or kill him until you have a better idea of what's going on.  Can you post a picture of this fish and the lump?

  2. it's probably a tumor, but it may be constipation (sometimes the bloating is only on one side... DO NOT FLUSH IT!

flushing a living fish is horribly cruel, they are shocked as they are thrown into water a different temp than their tank, then burned by the chlorine and chemicals in the water. after this they're slammed against pipes and burned by human waste.

I would wait a few days, it's likely not causing him any pain. if after a week or so it's definitely a tumor. if you feel it best to put him down, please do not flush him! check out this site:

  3. Don't flush it wait until he just sit at the bottom almost about to die. Or just nature take his coarse.

  4. Well if you let him die he can create excess Ammonia your bio filter may not be able to handle.  Ideally you would put him in a hospital tank, but if you don't have one that is not an option. I have taken fish out of tanks that I knew were going to die and put them out of their misery, but I never flushed one; I made sure it was dead and put it in the trash.  It really is more humane to kill a fish that will DEFINITELY die (not one that may make it) than to let it suffer and die and then possibly harm your other fish.

Also I saw a similar question about a growth on a goldfish last night and I looked it up and saw that it could be a tumor.  They suggested cutting it off and treating the wound with an antibiotic, but I don't know if you want to go through that or not.

Make sure to test your water so you know it is just that fish and not the water quality, because more fish may be soon to follow if so.

Good luck, i feel your pain

  5. go to the vet imediatley it may be a tumor on him!!!!!
