Your goldfish probably had ick (ich). My fish had that. I used QuICK Cure. It worked really well. You can probably it at any pet store in the fish medications area.

He has fin and tail rot. Google it if you want any more info.

1. Do a full water change, use a heater if you have one on the fresh water

2. Buy medicated drops to add to the water

3. Keep the water really clean at all times

Other than that, there isn't much to do. Without any meds it is nearly impossible to treat/ get rid of.

Sounds like they may have ick.  Go to a pet store and you can get something to treat it.
