  1. The first ball count.  The second ball is provisional, and that's exactly what it means, it is in play if you lost your first ball.

If you had lost your first ball, your provisional ball would've given you a score of three (one for the first ball, one penalty and one for the second ball stroke).

  2. You're supposed to take the first ball..but come on. Not every day you get a hole in one

  3. Since you were able to find your first one you should score that ball.

  4. Every one gave you the correct answer. If you find the original ball, that ball is still in play. You must complete the hole with that ball. The provisional ball only comes into play if the first ball is lost or the foursome spent more than 5 minutes looking for it.

  5. These are the rules:

If you think your ball may be lost or out of bounds, you may plan another ball (provisional ball) from the place where your first ball was played. You must tell your opponent or fellow-competitor that you are playing a provisional ball and play it before you look for the first ball. If you cannot find your first ball or If it is out of bounds, you must count the strokes with the first and provisional balls, add a penalty stroke and play out the hole with the provisional ball. If you find your first ball in bounds, continue play with it and pick up the provisional ball.

    Count your First

  6. If you lost the 1st ball and the 2nd ball went into the hole, you made 3 .. don't look for the 1st ball stupid

  7. Nice run-on. You'd play your first ball.

  8. you have to play and score your first ball if you find it..

Deano, even if you hole the provisional ball, you cannot just score a par, you still need to look for the first ball..  if it's lost, then you score the par, if not, play the first ball as it lies..

    ***Edit:

Deano, you cannot call a provisional ball and not look for the 1st ball, that's the very definition of a provi ball: you're going to hit one more IN CASE the 1st one is lost..  check out Rule 27-2c..  if he declares the 1st ball unplayable, he still needs to play the 1st ball because they found it.. he gets a penalty stroke and a drop..  if I was playing for money against this guy, believe me, i'll try to find his first ball..  :-)

    ***Edit:

hdorgdog: that's the difference.. he called provi after the 1st ball.. if he didn't, then he scores a 3..

  9. score the first ball you hit.

  10. I have a question about your question.  Did you make a "hole in one" with your provisional, or did you have to hit it again before you found your first one?  If you made an ace with the provisional, mark your scorecard with a par, and move on to the next tee.  If you had to take any more shots to get the provisional in the hole, once you play that ball, the first one is deemed lost and cannot be put back into play.  You have to keep playing the provisional.  If you found your first ball before you played another stroke on your provisional, you can declare the first one to be in play, and pick up the provisional.  Even if you made an ace with the provisional, if you found the first ball, you could take a chance and play it, gambling that you will make at least par.  If you dont think you can make par with the first one, take the par that you made with the provisional.

  11. You play and score the first ball.

  12. I would just take a Hole-in-One and tell my buddies to eff off.
