Golf: 15 year old Pakistani to play at World Junior Golf Championship
Mubariz Ahmed, a Pakistani 15 year old O-level student, will be representing Pakistan in the World Junior Golf Championship in Scotland.
The Junior World Golf Championships include tournaments for both boys and girls of age groups ranging from under 6 to 15 and 15 to17.
The Junior World Golf Championship was founded in 1968. In the Junior World Golf Championship, each age group plays at a separate course. The initial tournament numbered 475 competitors from 20 different U.S. States and six other countries. By 2003 there were one thousand and forty participants from 43 U.S States and 45 other countries. During the 2005 Junior Golf Championship, the boys and girls of age group 15-17 constituted the top 10 golfers and they were from 10 different countries. The most prominent trend in the results in recent years is a dramatic increase in the number of wins and top-10 finishes by boys and girls from East Asia. This trend has already translated to the LPGA Tour level.
Past champions of boy golfer includes, Ernie Ells, Phil Mickelson, Craig Stadler, Notah Begay III, David Toms and Tiger Woods.
Amy Alcott, Brandie Burton, Lorena Ochoa, and Jennifer Rosales were the past girls champions.
Mubariz Ahmed, who belongs to Karachi, earned the prestige to represent Pakistan in The World Junior Golf Championship. He has gained this status by good feature of his spectacular performance in the national junior’s trials where he emerged as the prominent and primary one by overshadowing the performance of many other talented golfers of the country. No doubt it is going to be a great occasion for Mubariz, as he will be playing against world class performers.
Currently, Mubariz is going to participate in the World Junior Golf Championship, and he will honoured to be a guest of the governing body of golf, Royal and St Andrew’s. Taimur Hassan, the Secretary of Pakistan Golf Fedration will accompany Mubariz in the Junior World Golf Championship. Taimur Hassan says that Mubariz has plenty of talent and he is hopeful that Mubariz will emerge as Pakistan’s leader in amateur golfer.
Mubariz started playing golf five years back. His most important performance has been the victory he gained in the President Gold Medal Championship where his remarkable form and stability enabled him to beat many seniors who are nationally recognized.
On the other hand a very upsetting incident happened when Pakistan’s top ranked golf professionals, Matloob Ahmed, Muhammed Siddique and Imdad Husain, who had qualified to participate in two prominent open championships both carrying Rs. four million prize money, could not participate. The event was held in Pune, India. The three Pakistani golfers had to suffer greatly as the Indian embassy rejected their visa and did not care to respond to their visa application. The tournament was scheduled for June 22 to 25 and the second one started on June 2.
Imdad said that despite trying to contact the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, they did not get any response from them and missed both events. He said they were qualified contestants, and it was their right to participate in these tournaments, but unfortunately they could not. All three of them had deposited Indian Rs 42,000 as entry fees for those competitions but unfortunately they didn’t get the chance to participate and missed a big event. One reason for not letting them participate in the event can be the political instability in the country. But hopefully next time no such thing will happen to any Pakistani sports person or anyone else.
