Golf - A game for healthy minds
Golf is not a very popular game; the usual perception in the minds of people about golf is that “it’s a slow game for old people that need to walk.”
That is not true. The growing popularity of the sport denies the fact and has given us yet another reason to be grateful to the Scottish for inventing this sport.
Mark Twain argues that golf is nothing but a good walk spoilt but that is definitely not the case with golfers; for them the game is an essential part of their lives, for some it is even more than a game, it is a passion .Those who play golf get addicted
to it, it takes hold of their everyday lives and even when golfers are not playing, they keep thinking about the next golf moves.
It’s a simple club and ball game, and even though golf is a much older game than football, it is not so highly rated, the reason being it is much more than a simple hit and play game, and it is more like a game of chess, where players have to calculate every
move they make.
Golf as opposed to other games, is unique in its game play. The reason being, there is no standard golf course for golfers, every game is a different scenario for golfers, every experience is a new experience, every challenge is a new challenge, and every
day at golf is a unique day where the real skills and abilities of amateur and professional golfers are put to the test, making it a very hard BUT very interesting to play game for the golfers.
The biggest stars in the sport often find themselves in the limelight. In that sense maybe it is not a very unique game compared to the high profile games such as football and basketball, as fans try following even the daily lives of the golfers themselves,
the common examples would be Tiger Woods’ and Michelle Wie that have a really hard time escaping the lens and paparazzi.
Just like other sports, there are annual tournaments throughout the world, the Masters is played during the first week of April and the US Open is played once a year. British open, PGA Cup, ASIA Open and others are just a few that follow. The fan following
of these tournaments is not very considerable, but the prize money for the winners of these tournaments is great, sometimes sizing in millions of dollars.
The game lifts the spirit , energizes the mood , makes a person feel alive , it is all about walking and swinging the club in the right direction. However, subconsciously, the game plays with the mind of the golfer, the green fields energize every cell of
the human body, the cheery fellows alongside a golfer plays with are like the best friends ever made, it is almost impossible to have a tragic feeling while playing golf. Golf is like a love affair, if you do not take it seriously, it is no fun, if you do,
the feeling is ecstatic.
In fact, golf is a social game. There’s plenty of time to chat with friends and get to know new ones. Being outdoors and enjoying the game of golf can be an ideal way to release any possible stress in the golfer's life. Playing golf has numerous health benefits
as well including a longer, healthy life. In fact, there is no pleasure as big as getting out in the fields on a sunny day, just doing nothing except hitting a ball with a club, and if the shot is right, enjoying immense amount of money and fame.
The write up reflects the views of a true supporter of the beautiful game and it is sincerely hoped that the sport gains the recognition it deserves.
