Question:

Golf Ball Help?

Looking for ball suggestions. I have average to above average distance on my irons and driver, however below average distance on my 3 wood and hybrids to lesser extent (don't hit woods or hybrids very high). I am fairly straight and get decdent spin on my low irons and wedges. I am also a below average putter. Just looking for suggestions to help my game.

  1. The best ball for you, in my opinion, is the Titleist ProV1x....

    Good length and control!

  2. Golf.com has a golf bal selector article. It is quite helpful depning on your handicap and strengths and weaknesses.

  3. I'm throwing driver out of the equation here, it's a different animal entirely.

Let me guess, you use steel in your irons and graphite in your fairway and hybrids? My suggestion is find a steel shafted fairway or hybrid to demo, or even just hit a few on a simulator. The heavier weight and better feel could make all the difference in your game. The rest sounds pretty good aside from some putting practice (don't we all need that?).

  4. The culprit here may be ball position. A lot of people tend to play the 3-wood to far forward. This will cause the ball to start off at a lower trajectory. Try moving the ball back a little, and catch it on more of a down move. This will cause the call to launch much higher, and resulting in more distance. The same holds true for the hybrids. Remember, the hybrid is a iron replacement. Play it like an iron. Hit down, and aggressively through the ball. I am a 2 handicap, and a good putter (remember, you must believe). When reading breaks, pick a spot you want to roll the ball over, just about 12 inches in front of the ball. This is the last time I even consider the line. My mind is made up. As you stand up to the putt, don't take your eves off that spot. Speed is all you are considering now. You are still trusting you spot. If in doubt, start over (don't hold up play). Force yourself to putt to your spot of aim, don't fudge toward the target, you will miss it low. One more thing, you can't make a putt that doesn't get to the hole. Good Luck. I hope this doesn't do too much damage!

  5. he he geting points

  6. Go to your local newsstand and ask for the February issue of Golf Magazine.  It tested 54 different golf balls and makes suggestions on which one will fit the kind of player you are.

  7. well if it is distance you are looking for..... go with the titleist nxt tour.... it is the longest ball on the market.... but if you want better feel around the green then the nike 1 platium is a good ball.... it is the sofest and tiger uses it cause he has plenty of distance and he wants better touch around the green.  The pro v1 is probably the best combination of the two... it gives you good distace with very good spin and control around the green.
