Golf - Best round of the year?
The PGA tour came closer to its finale when Charlie Beljan won the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.
This season has, by far, been very eventful and interesting. We saw many new names come up.
We also witnessed the rise of Rory McIlroy, as he matched Luke Donald’s record of last year, wining tour money lists on both, the PGA Tour and the European Tour as well.
There have been many brilliant performances this year. We saw some magnificent shots as well, especially the one Bubba Watson shot at the playoff in the Masters.
However, the best round of year? This will take a great deal of debate and discussion. Let us look at some of the best rounds that were shot in the 2012 PGA season.
Phil Mickelson’s round at the AT&T Pebble Beach made some headlines, as he erased a six-shot deficit and won the title. Not only did he overcome a six-shot gap but also won the tournament for a record fourth time.
Many pundits consider Lefty’s final at the AT&T Pebble Beach as the best round that was shot this season.
Tommy Gainey missed the magical number of 59 at the McGladrey Classic, despite shooting a birdie after a birdie, in his round of 10-under 60.
Shooting a ten-under in the final round takes some effort, that too, when you know this will be your first win on the PGA Tour.
Although the field was not very lavish at the McGladrey Classic, but his round was magical nonetheless.
Rory McIlroy won his second major this year with a victory at the Kiawah Islands. He dazzled the field during his final round campaign at PGA Championship.
His round of 6-under 66 was not only commanding but it was a record round at the PGA Championship, as he won the major with a gap of seven shots.
Tiger Woods’ round at the Honda Classic was a treat to watch. The fourteen-time major winner shot a brilliant round of 62 on one of the hardest courses on the tour.
Shooting 62 was appreciable but the way he went about his round was just awesome. No bogeys, two eagles and four birdies were simply a treat to watch.
Last, but not the least, who can forget Charlie Beljan’s second round at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic?
The rookie was suffering from a panic attack while playing on the course. However, the motivation to win led him to glory, as he shot a hard fought round of 64.
With so much of diversity and with such brilliant acts, it is hard to declare which is the best round of the year so far.
