Golf Breaking News - Erica Blashberg’s death ruled out as a suicide attempt
Erica Blasberg's body was found on May 9th at her on home in Nevada. She was found in her room with a plastic bag over her head. Dr. Thomas Hess turned himself to the authorities, and was charged of obstruction charges. The authorities told the press Hess, found Erica’s body and removed various stuff from the crime scene, which included a suicide note.
However, Thomas was released 40 minutes later on a bail of $637, as reported by Keith Paul, who works as a spokesman for Henderson Police.
The details of the suicide note have not been revealed but the long investigation has been ruled out to be a suicide. Reports say that Erica died because of asphyxia caused by the medication she took for headaches, anti-anxiety and cough. The Nevada police told the press there was no foul play in the 25-year-old golfer’s death; however an arrest warrant has been issued out for Dr. Thomas Hess.
An attorney from Henderson named David Mincavage told the press, “Hess will carry a $1,000 fine as the maximum penalty and is to serve jail for six months.” David did not comment further as he was bombarded with questions by different media representatives.
Dr. Hess admitted on removing a death note, which indicated that Erica took her life. He told the police he talked to her night before the incident took place, because she was supposed to leave for the golf tournament but did not. Hess said she sounded intoxicated on the phone and most likely had consumed a couple of drinks. He further stated she seemed sad but there was no indication of whether she was suicidal.
Hess’s medical license is still active and has not been revoked by the Nevada State of Medical Examiners.
"At first glance it looks like she might have taken her own life, but at second glance, something is very, very strange about it. We're waiting for the police to make an investigation,” said Erica’s father, Mel Blasberg in an interview with the Riverside County Press-Enterprise a day after her death.
Erica Blasberg grew up in Orange, California. In high school she played in the boy’s high school team. This year would have been her sixth season on the LPGA tour.
