Golf: Brent Delahoussaye ties Canadian Open record
The 62 shot at the St. Georges Golf and Country Club by Brent Delahoussaye tied him with the record at the Golf course in Canada. He not only enjoyed being joint record holder here but also was able to establish a lead of two strokes at the end of day one. It was however a day of low scores as twenty-three players shot 66 or better and another 51 broke par.
Brent Delahoussaye’s five year professional career hasn’t earned much. Numerically speaking, the amount is around $150,000 so far. But if his current performance continues he can win a handful of money.
However, we should not forget the fact that there are still three more days of play and anything is possible. Last week Louis Oosthuizen came out on top leaving behind players like Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. He went in with 200 to 1 odds of winning.
The second place man, Vance Veazy, looked in good form as he fired a first round of 64. Vance Veazy, was an unheard of player previously but is now ready to put up a challenge for the Canadian Open title after his first day’s play shows. Players like him coming and putting up a performance like this shows the level of competition in golf now. Now it is not the same golf as it used to be, with one player dominating. Everything looks different and in every event you seem to find a new champion.
Another player, who up till now was known by few, Brock Mackenzie, completes the top three, leaving the title wide open for anybody to grab. Like the British Open, where Louis Oosthuizen came on top, this tournament may also provide us with some exciting and entertaining golf in the days to come.
Out of these three golfers, not even one of them has previously won a tournament and all are relatively new if we compare them with other great golfers. It would be a huge surprise if either one of them can make it to the final cut on Sunday or even till Saturday.
It is surprising how the above mentioned golfers have managed to cement their place on top. These relatively less successful golfers have left behind some popular and better golfers namely, Dean Wilson, Hunter Mahan, Charley Hoffman, Spencer Levin and Matt Jones.
Verpank is another player from whom something was expected but he didn’t deliver much either. He only managed to reach an even par. Goosen, another player who somewhat was thought to put up a tough competition was minus three at the end of the first day. Both of these golfers will be used again on day two of the Canadian Open.
O’Hair was another player who just managed to reach an even under par too. But he would be replaced by the better Kevin Na who managed minus three by putting up a somewhat better performance.
Ricky Barnes, on the other hand will be replacing Kucher. Ricky Barnes, his backup managed to get to minus three where as Kuchar was even.
The two Canadian golfers taking part in the tournament did not attract the attention of many either. They did not manage to do anything extraordinary. And therefore, added to the leader board registering similar low scores for them as all others did.
On day two, the players will surely and without a doubt come near Delahoussaye, because this is the only choice they have if they want to be crowned Champion. Each and every one of the golfers would love to make it through to the cut. As a result, they would be a step closer to fulfill their dream.
If it stays as it did on the first day, this is going to be another surprising win for a player who statistically speaking doesn’t have statistics backing him up. However, this will result in a more exciting and interesting final 3 days. With rain forecasted it makes the Canadian Open even more defenseless.
