Golf: Brittany Lincicome joins the Hooters Tour
The three-time winner at Ladies Professional Golf Association will tee off with men. Yes, the rumour is true. Brittany Lincicome, who is known for being one of the longest drivers in LPGA Tour, will be appearing in the Bridgestone
Winter Series of Hooters Tour.
The 25-year-old American confirmed the news in a press conference in Florida on Friday. She said that appearance in the National Golf Academy Hooters Tour was part of her preparation for the upcoming LPGA Tour. The experience would
help her gear up to compete with the top female golfers of the world.
She added, “The LPGA Tour finished in December, and I need to keep playing to get ready for next season. This will be my seventh year on the LPGA Tour and I still get nervous when I tee off (in the LPGA season-opening event) in Thailand. This tournament
is close to home and has a lot of competition in it. I think it's a great way for me to get some of the nerves out before our season starts.”
Competing against players like Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker would definitely give her confidence and help her control her nerves. The tournament will start in the second week of January 2011 at the Deer Island Golf Club and will feature 12 events. Whether
Lincicome takes part in all the twelve events is a question, which remains unanswered.
Lincicome, who turned professional in 2004, is recognised as one of the longest hitters on LPGA Tour. In her rookie year, she led the tour with the highest driving distance average of 270.3 yards. Within a few months, she was rated as the second longest
driver of 2006 with 278.6 yards in driving distance average. Moreover, she has a victory at Kraft Nabisco Championship 2009 attached with her name. Kraft Nabisco Championship is recognised as a major in LPGA tour.
The NGA Hooters Tour’s Bridgestone Winter Series will take place in Florida. The tournament will help Lincicome gear up for the LPGA Tour through which she aims to reach the top five players in the Official World Golf Rankings.
