Golf Cart Question?

I've got a 2004 Club Car electric golf cart that I got a week ago from a custom dealer. Everything runs great but there's one thing that I'm a little confused about. The dealer put in a battery meter that is identical to the one in this picture ( http://www.cartsandpartsonline.com/catalog/77_1_b_245_1.JPG ). When the needle gets to about 3/4 full, the separate battery light comes on. The cart sounds and performs like it still has a lot of juice left in it as the meter suggests, but I'm not sure what the light is telling me.

The only times that the light goes off is when it is fully charged, while driving for extended amounts of time, or when the charge cable is connected (when actually charging or not).

What does the light mean?
