Golf Channel, NBC Sports join hands for Accenture Match Play Championships coverage
Golf Channel and NBC Sports have joined hands for the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championships as its official media partners.
Accenture Match Play Championships, which will be staged in Arizona, is the first of the five flagship events on the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour. The 64-man event is expecting a huge media gathering is expected at the venue. Therefore, to cash on the sizzling opportunity and to provide a premium quality golfing experience to the viewers, the NBC Sports Group has signed a deal with the tour and joined hands with the Golf Channel.
NBC Sports Group, the organisation formed after the merger and was finalised last month, will provide complete coverage of the event through graphics, promotion, production, and on-air talent.
Network president Mike McCarley addressed a press conference in which he explained the format of coverage. “NBC Sports Group is truly marshalling myriad assets on and off the air to emphasize the cable network and the branding of PGA Tour broadcasts as ‘Golf Channel on NBC.’ Golf Channel controls exclusive cable rights to Thursday and Friday coverage of the PGA Tour, while NBC holds broadcast rights to 10 events, including the next six on the sport's southern swing.”
The coverage will kick start with promos and banners of the event being displayed on 20 NBCU networks and 40 attendant websites.  Moreover,  a program on Golf Channel by the name of ‘Morning Drive’ will give a preview of the tournament for an hour on February 23 and a half hour on February 24-25. Apart from that, a news show – Golf Central – will give a review of the entire tournament by the end of the day.
NBC Sports Group producer Tommy Roy will chair the tournament coverage starting from the practice rounds on both the networks.
Golf Channel’s symbol ‘G’ and NBC’s symbol ‘Peacock’ will be seen on the leader boards of all the rounds. Moreover, the Golf Channel will provide live commentary and information regarding the tournament through Facebook and Twitter.
The deal has been signed and now golf lovers can fully enjoy the performances of their favourite stars with better quality and more coverage.
