Golf Channel lands another milestone: A Street named Golf Channel Drive in Orlando, Florida
Golf Channel landed another feather in its already blistering cap when Mayor of Orlando, Florida, unravelled a new street name in the honour of the channels services to the sport.
The ceremony was held today, March 21 in the network’s studios where Mayor Buddy Dyer unfurled the emblem named, “Golf Channel Drive” in the presence of no fewer than 200 distinguished guests from the city community.
Chief guests apart from Dyer were the golfing legend Arnold Palmer and Golf Channel President Mike McCarley.
Palmer, who was the main impetus behind the creation of an exclusive golf channel some 20 years ago, expressed his deep satisfaction and pleasure and termed it as a milestone in the channel’s long run of history.
He said, “For me this is an extreme pleasure to be here in Orlando. I started here in about 1962 and I’ve been hanging on ever since, and each day that goes by I am more proud of what has happened and certainly what has happened with the Golf Channel.”
Other guests present at the ceremony included Golf Channel co-founder Joe Gibbs; Tom Ridge, former United States secretary of Homeland Security; Joe Steranka, chief executive officer of the PGA of America; Tom Williams, chairman and chief executive officer,
Universal Parks & Resorts; and Rick Anderson, executive vice president, PGA TOUR.
McCarley also spoke on the occasion and said, "For the past 17 years, we have grown to be a proud part of the Orlando community. When visitors see how our campus has grown, they will now see the pride on the outside that our founders and employees have always
felt on the inside”.
Starting off with humble beginnings in 1995, Golf Channel has now grown into a major sports network and has agreements with all major tours in the world.
It provides live telecasts to audience and spectators in no fewer than 120 million homes worldwide.
