Golf: Christel Boeljon records maiden win at Turkish Airlines Ladies Open
Netherland’s, Christel Boeljon, displayed excellent composure to maintain her overnight lead in the final round and finally won her maiden Ladies European Tour title at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open at National Golf Club Antalya.
She had a one stroke lead coming into the final round and finished even Par for 73 to overpower the opponents with a three stroke lead. The runners-up, England’s Florentyna Parker, and, Becky Brewerton, could not withstand the immense pressure of the final
holes and both double bogeyed the last hole.
“It feels great. My mind is doing over hours right now. It’s great, you put so much hard work in it and to finally come out on top is an amazing feeling. I was a bit nervous for sure and the back nine was a bit messy, maybe, but the wind picked up as well
and you could see it from the scores. They all went up. I was happy to keep my head down and keep grinding and it was enough”.
Boeljon started off the day on a positive note, birdying three of the first four holes. She pulled in a stunning curling birdie at the 10th but later on stumbled with four bogeys on the difficult layout.
As the fast approaching contenders, Brewerton, and, Parker, double bogeyed the final hole, Boeljon ran away with the title without going through the trouble of Playoff. With this win, Boeljon has now climbed to the third spot on the LET’s Henderson Money
List.
This was Boeljon’s third appearance on the tour after she won the 2009 European Nations Cup as a part of the European Team. She finished tied for second in Turkey last year and it was the invaluable experience more than anything, which helped her lift her
maiden title.
Boeljon has also now confirmed her place in the upcoming Solheim Cup in September this year, as she has now soared to number three in the European Ladies Rankings and top four will make it into the Alison Nicholas’ team.
“Before hand my goal was Solheim, so I’m on track right now”, she said.
Boeljon also collected her winner’s share of €37,500 and the dazzling crystal trophy.
