Golf: Doug Miller Family Sports Park announces kids’ golf academy
Doug Miller Family Sports Park announced a 270-day training session for young golfers in a press conference on Tuesday.
The training session is a creation of Doug Miller Family Sports Park, which stresses on the notion of spreading sports awareness in children to shape their future.
Director of instruction at Irondequoit Country Club, Brian Jacobs addressed the press and said, “We are trying to get young golfers into a training environment so they can progress to their greatest potential. So we are dealing with all aspects with fitness
as a springboard in hopes they can compete at a higher level.”
The purpose of the training session is to promote the sports in the area and hence encourage fresh blood to opt for it as a profession in the future. Thereby, the program will start from 5 February 2011 for children aged between 7 to 17 years at very low
rates. As per details, the 270-day session will cost $1,999, but if a learner wants to pursue it separately, then he/she will pay $395 per program.
Schalk van Niekerk, instructor at the facility highlighted the rationale of the program. He said, “You can do lessons until you're blue in the face, but if you don't have the strategy or you don't have the vehicle to transform kids into players. The key
lies in character shaping, the key lies in a safe environment and being able to transfer those kinds of skills that become good habits, and in time you have a whole new character developing.”
Jacobs further added that they would provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to deserving candidates. Moreover, the golf equipment will be provided by the golfing facility at the Sports Park and Mill Creek Short Course and it would be included
in the package.
The registrations for the program are open for all the residents of Rochester, who fall in the specified age bracket. The area has no golfer named the vicinity, owing to the lack of awareness. Programs of such type will not only promote a healthy life style
in children, but also help in bringing out fresh talent.
