  1. Some good tips given so far.  If you want him to like and keep the driver for more than a month or so, let him be involved in picking it out.  He needs to hit some different drivers to see which one he likes the looks of and the feel.  Then he needs the specs dialed in to fit his swing on a launch monitor by a competent club fitter.  Unless he doesn't play much at all then you could just by him whatever.

Oh yeah LMAO on the bounce angle being important.  Let's hope he doesn't take divots with his new driver.

  2. gift certificate for custom fitting . try clevland hi bore 225 range just as good as the 600 plus you will get a romantic dinner . cost of gift cerificate for fitting is deducted from purchase price

  3. 100-500 dollars. And don't waste this money by buying it for him. Take him to the Golf Store, when he doesn't expect it, like on a trip to the grocery store, or a detour from work some day, and surprise him. Drivers are all about feel, no matter what the marketing dept will tell you. I am sure he would love your company in this purchase. In fact i think his presence is more important than yours. A great idea, every golfer wants new clubs, but a very difficult purchase. I hit 200 different drivers of different makes, different models, different ages, different lofts, different shaft flexes, different lie angles, and so on. All of these are factors matter, and if even one is off, the driver won't perform to its highest standards. In fact, most of the time when you buy a new driver you don't even get it right away, but have to have it built to the golfers specifications by the manufacturer. Then it takes two weeks minimum to get your club. Even with the wait it is well worth it. A valentines gift that will be an event. What more could the two of you ask for. A gift and time together, perfect eh?

  4. take him to the golf store as a surprise and let him go to the range with a choice of drivers with different lofts and shafts and let him pick the one he likes

i would strongly recommend you dont just go and buy one as there are different club head sizes/shapes/lofts/shaft flex

  5. It will be very hard to buy him the correct driver if you dont know what he needs or wants.  I would ask him specifically what he wants or you risk wasting hundreds of dollars on a driver he will not be able to hit properly.  He's a lucky man. I want a new driver!

  6. You can't buy a new driver for your husband and expect him to be happy with it - nice gift don't get me wrong, but he needs to pick it out himself.  Get him a $400 gift certificate and a picture of a driver and tell him to go pick out what he wants.  He will be eternally grateful.

  7. Get him a gift certificate to the golf store.  Trust me he will love it.  Just give him the money and let him pick it.  Therefore he won't take the one you buy and trade it in for one he wants.  A new driver is going to be in the neighborhood of 400(+/-) bucks so ya know.

  8. When buying golf drivers these are some of the things to look for.

Head size  (common with new drivers 460cc)

    Swing weight  (D0 - D5)

Shaft  (stiff, flex, there are different ranges for both)

Shaft lenght (depends how tall you are)

Driver head offset  (promotes right to left ball flight)

Driver head loft angle (9.5 - 12.5 degrees)

    Lie angle

    Bounce

My suggestion is to get him fitted for one as a gift.  They will check his swing speed for the right kind of shaft.  Depending how good your husband is will depend on the type of driver head, angle etc,... he will want to improve his game.

Good brands are Ping G10, Taylor Made R7, Cleveland HiBore  have fun !!

  9. That all depends on how good your husband is at golf, how much you are looking to spend and what not. I am assuming that if you are buying him a club he must not be that great otherwise he would in no way let you buy him clubs, he would already have his own set. the club you need to buy depends on a number of factors, his height, size, swing speed, and how he hits the ball. I would try to find a driver that matches the rest of his clubs or you can buy him a really nice driver so he can make it his goal to one day match the rest of his clubs to it. If he only golfs 10 times a year and none of this matters, any club thats on sale will do the job. You are going to be looking at anywhere from 40-500 dollars for a driver. I would go to a place where they will know enough to help you out without trying to be too technical as I have been. just tell them my husband is this height, this size, he is right or left handed, i would buy him a club with flexibility for a 110 swing speed and a 10 degree club face and not spend more than 150 bucks

  11. if he's a good golfer expect to spend more than $200 on a new club...Taylor Made, Super Quad, Callaway, Big Bertha 460, Nike Sasquatch 2

if he's average- it will be in the $150 range- Taylor Made R460, King Cobra F Speed

if he's a beginner- go to a "gently used" store like Play it Again Sports and get one of those nicer drivers used

    hope I helped!
