Golf: French determined to win the Bid to host 2018 Ryder Cup, The French bid slogan is “Passion, Prestige, and Panache.”

The Ryder Cup is a golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. The competition is jointly administered by the PGA of America and the PGA European Tour, and is contested every two years, the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe. Different non British players have been representing Europe in the Ryder Cup but surprisingly only once the event has taken place in Continental Europe. This is about to change with Spain, Portugal, France, Netherland and Germany all vying to move in same footing as Valderrama- Spain which played hosts in 1997.

French have come out strong for 2018 Ryder Cup bid. French Golf Federation is determined to win the bid for 2018 Ryder Cup’s host rights. French Golf Federation-FF Golf in recent times made different efforts to promote its bid. French golfers are supporting this bid with Gregory Havret leading from front. FF Golf intensions became clear when French Golfer Havret wore the France 2018 logo on his bag, as he was participating at US Open. Gregory outplayed his playing partner Tiger Woods to finish runner up. US Open is one the biggest event of golfing world which is watch by fans all around the world. Bid logo on Gregory Havret was a smart move to market French intentions of hosting this prestigious tournament.

The French have used a slogan that rightly fits their ambition. The French bid slogan of Ryder Cup 2018 is “Passion, Prestige, and Panache.” They are focusing on these three key elements, along with some other strong points of French legacy.

Almost 20 miles from Paris is situated the beautiful course- L’Albatros. French has always used this massive weapon in their favour. French bid is pushing its weight because of this great course that was made with Ryder Cup solely in mind.  Beautifully furnished superb course will make a wonderful match playing venue for golfers.

Registered members of FF Golf have come out in full support of their countries bid. Each member has promised to pay a 3 Euro Ivey in order to help raise funds for this bid. This is a strong point for French bid, since it promises a big pool of cash. This strategy not only helps guaranteeing funds but also provides golfers a sense that they are part of this mega event. There are about 410,000 registered members and about 83% have already said “yes” to pay 3 Euro each.

President of France Nicolas Sarkozy, has given his government’s full support for French bid. To his credit, he started a 35 billion project that will allow improvement in transportation system which will cut travel time between Le Golf National and Charles de Gualle airport.

Capital of France is famous for its tourism. The French capital hosts more tourists than any other city in the world with the help of some excellent infrastructure. Paris is linked with UK from Euro star trains. It takes about two hours and 15 minutes to travel from UK to Paris. Orly airport is another advantage for French bid. Orly is only a 20 minute drive from Le Golf National course.

One factor that plays a vital role in hosting bid is to see if the event will have lasting impact on people. London had cashed on this very point for its 2012 Olympics bid. Besides having an impact, the city should be equipped well to host mega event. France has successfully hosted two mega events before this. 1998 FIFA World Cup and 2007 Rugby World Cup were hosted by France which speaks volume of its hosting potential.

The French bid is also capitalizing on its assessment methods to create most socially viable environment for Ryder Cup.

Only time will tell if France will get the honour of hosting the most sought out tournament on golf. If French get to win this bid, it will set tune for future golfing tournaments of the world. Chris Wood made his first visit to Le Golf National course. He was impressed by the course and admitted that he completely loved it.

"Every player likes it in fact. The way there was so much drama on the last four holes last week proves how good it would be in the Ryder Cup. I think most of the players want it to host a Ryder Cup."- He added.
